wizards

Wizards

Wizards of Waverly Place is about a family with 3 children who are wizards in training. But, only one child from each family can keep their powers. The day is coming when they will compete with each other to win the family powers for themselves leaving the other two siblings as normal humans. Meanwhile their father, a former wizard, is home schooling them in the wizardry arts.

Alex Russo, the only girl, doesn't really care about much except her self, and uses magic to do things she thinks are hard which usually makes things worse for her. She enjoys magic the most and uses it to benefit herself. Her best friend is Harper Finkle. Alex has several boyfriends during the series, primarily a rather less than smart boy, and then a werewolf/boy who appears through the last couple of seasons.

Justin is the oldest Russo son, very smart and studious, and he plans on becoming the family wizard. Justin is the most experiences in magic, often bailing his siblings out of magical trouble. After many misadventures dating both magical and human girls, Justin finally gets a vampire girlfriend during the last half of the show's run.

Max Russo is the youngest sibling, known for not being as bright as his older brother and sister, and the spells he uses usually don't work or at best backfire on him. Max is oddly the farthest along in Wizard competition training by the fourth season since his two older siblings were set back to the beginning level by the head Wizard for revealing the secret of Wizards to the world. In the same last season Max is accidentally transformed by his two older siblings into a preteen girl for a number of episodes going by the name of Maxine, until they can find the cure to the spell.

Harper Finkle, Alex's best friend, at first has no clue to the Russo's big magical secret. Later on, Alex lets her best friend in on the secret. For the rest of the series after the episode 'Harper Knows', Harper is in on their magical secrets and many of their adventures. Shortly after Harper's parents get work in another country and Harper is invited to live with the Russo's in their basement. She is best known for her fashion flair, using odd objects and food to enhance her outfits. She has a crush on Justin for the 1st part of the series and then on his best friend Zeke in the later half of the series. Justin later lets Zeke in on the magical secret by the fourth season.

The parents are the owner/operators of a New York Deli Shop located on Waverly Street and the family lives in the apartment above the shop. There is a magical room located inside of the store's freezer only the Russo's and other magically aware beings can see. The parents love their kids and try to help them through their odd adolescence years as both normal teens and wizards in training.

All of the youngsters attend the same school, which is overseen by their principal, a wild western era fan and occasional friend or enemy to Alex depending on what trouble she gets into each week.

Several episodes were set in Wizard School, where the older siblings went during the summer for further magical education.

One TV movie was made between season 2 and 3 with the family going on vacation to Puerto Rico, their mothers family homeland.

A number of multi-part episodes featured various combinations of Vampires, Zombies, Angels and other magical creatures.

The series was extremely popular for all four years of its run, and helped make Selena Gomez (Alex) a fan favorite singer and actress.
